‘Fixer’ Shin Seung-min on his last high school tournament…helping his team win

The star of the opening day of the 51st Bonghwangdae National High School Baseball Tournament was Gyeonggi Sang Sang High School’s Shin Seung-min (junior), who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, including the game-winning double, to lead the team to an 8-1 cold-game victory over Seoul Dongsan High School in the first game of the tournament at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, on April 18.

The Gyeonggi Sanggo bats were held to two hits through the first four innings of the day, giving up the lead in the top of the fifth. Needing to turn the tide, Shin Seung-min wasted no time in putting runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the fifth. He singled up the middle to bring home two runners and seal the win. After the game, Shin laughed and said, “I felt like I was going to hit it unconditionally because I felt good hitting in the recent practice games.”

Although his season batting average (0.229) was not high until this day, as he said, “My personal performance is not good this year,” he showed a strong side in every game at the national tournament. Last month, he hit a 3-3 tiebreaker in the top of the seventh inning in the quarterfinals of the Cheongnyonggi quarterfinals against Daegu Sangwon High School to lead the team to a come-from-behind victory and send the team to the quarterfinals of its first national tournament. He also had two RBIs against Gyeonggi High School in the Presidential Games on the 2nd and two RBIs against Hwasun High School on the 5th. When asked about the secret of his many RBIs, he credited his teammates, saying, “My teammates provided me with good chances.”메이저놀이터

In addition to the game-winning hit, Shin also drew one walk and two batted balls, reaching home on two of them. “As it was my last high school tournament, I had to put aside my personal greed and unconditionally play as a team,” he said, adding, “I will work together with my teammates to stand at the top of the phoenix.”
