Uruguay’s 36-year-old veteran striker Luis Suarez has made a surprise return to the national team after the World Cup in Qatar.

Suarez, the all-time leading scorer for the Uruguayan national soccer team (68 goals), returns to the national team after an 11-month absence following the Qatar World Cup in November and December of last year.
At the World Cup, Uruguay was in Group H with South Korea, and Suarez started their first group game against South Korea.
At the Qatar World Cup, Uruguay finished third in the group behind South Korea and were knocked out of the tournament.
Since joining Gremio earlier this year, Suarez has scored 14 goals in 29 league games this season.
Uruguay will play two South American Zone qualifiers for the 2026 North and Central American World Cup during this A-match.
They face Argentina on the 17th and Bolivia on the 22nd.
The matchup with Argentina, especially with Lionel Messi at the helm, is also a meeting between the current 1-2 ranked teams.
