Spain and Germany open the quarterfinals. They’ll face off at the Jakarta International Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. It’s their third meeting this year. They played to a 1-1 draw in February and met in March, with Spain winning 4-3.

Both teams finished first in their respective groups at the tournament. Spain had two wins and a draw in Group B, while Germany had three wins in three matches in Group F. The round of 16 was no different. Spain edged Japan 2-1, while Germany topped the United States 3-2. Both teams were undefeated heading into the round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Brazil and Argentina overcame early-season struggles to reach the quarterfinals. Brazil dropped a 2-3 shocker to Iran in their first group game. Argentina also fell 1-2 to Senegal in their first group game. Both teams bounced back in the second round. Brazil defeated New Caledonia (9-0) and England (2-1) to reach the round of 16, where they defeated Ecuador 3-1. Argentina defeated Japan (3-1) and Poland (4-0) before crushing Venezuela 5-0 in the round of 16.

Brazil won the South American qualifier 3-2 in April. Brazil won the title with four wins, one draw, and 13 points, while Argentina finished third with two wins, one draw, two losses, and seven points. The teams that represented South America in the tournament will meet again in the knockout rounds in six months.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth quarterfinal games will be played on the 25th. France, who were in Group E with South Korea, and Uzbekistan, the only surviving Asian nation, will face off in the semifinals. This will be followed by a clash of African teams. Mali and Morocco, who came out of nowhere, will be looking to book their place in the last four.
