The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games soccer team, led by Hwang Sun-hong, has been unveiled.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) released the shirt numbers of the 22 members of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games squad on its official social media channels on Monday. Hwang Sun-hong’s side will open their campaign against Kuwait on Sept. 19, followed by three group matches against Thailand on Sept. 21 and Bahrain on Sept. 24.
It will be the third consecutive gold medal for Korea. South Korea won gold at both the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.
The team is even stronger with the addition of ace Lee Kang-in. The KFA announced on Friday, “The KFA has reached an agreement with the club of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that Lee Kang-in will join the Asian Games squad after the conclusion of the club’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) home match against Dortmund on Nov. 19, local time in France. Accordingly, Lee will travel to Hangzhou, China, to join the Asian Games team on the 20th local time in France,” the KFA officially announced.
“After receiving an email from PSG on the 13th to allow Lee to travel to the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, subject to the rescheduling of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, the KFA held discussions with PSG until late on the 14th, and finally received an official response from PSG on the 14th to allow Lee to join the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games squad on the 20th without any other preconditions.”
Lee will join the team after their UEFA UCL match against Dortmund. However, he will not be able to play in the first group game against Kuwait as he will not arrive in Hangzhou until the 20th. He is also unlikely to play against Thailand on the 21st, given his fitness issues.
He is likely to play for the first time against Bahrain in the third round. Coach Hwang Sun-hong had hoped to get him on board for a game or two before the tournament, but at least Lee Kang-in will be able to work with the team for at least one more match.
The KFA released the numbers of the 22-man squad a day before the first leg against Kuwait. Goalkeeper Lee Kwang-yeon was given the number one jersey. Captain Baek Seung-ho was given the number 8, while vice captain Lee Jae-ik was given the number 5. Cho Young-wook will wear the ace number 10, Jung Woo-young will wear the number 7, and Uhm Won-sang will wear the number 11.
Lee Kang-in was given the number 18. This is the same number he wore at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Lee wore the number 10 at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, his first tournament with the Korean flag. He scored two goals and made four assists, winning the Golden Ball.메이저놀이터
Lee also wore the number 8 shirt at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and last year he was given the number 13 shirt at the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup. For this tournament, he will wear the same number, 18, as he did at the last World Cup in Qatar.
